The Technical Consulting Commitee Meeting withing the frames of Monreal Process

In October 3-7, 2005 in Sochi on the base of Dendrological parc was held the Technical Consulting Commitee Meeting withing the frames of Monreal Process.

The Monreal process started in 1994. It is one of the few regional and international undertakings where the participating countries are striving to use criteria and indicators to achieve the sustainable forest management.

The Monreal process is an activity performed by the intergovernmental working group of expertsping scientifically grounded criteria and indicators of forest protection and sustainable forest use withing temperate and boreal forest zones. Twelve countries take part in the Monreal process: Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Mexico, New Zeland, Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, USA, Uruguay, Chile and Japan.

On the meeting round-table debates and discussions were over the National report of the Russian Federation on the criteria and indicators of the sustainable forest management is developed based on the Russian obligations to follow Principles of sustainable forest management, adopted by the 1992 UN Coerence on Environment and Development (Rio-de-Janeiro, 1992) and confirmed by the Declaration on the Sustainable Development (Santiago, 1995). This report is designed to provide objective information about the state and use of Russian forests.
